Joleen Hales and Christian and Ru Anna Singletary’s Tres Of Linda put behind her troubled outing in a trial to the Los Alamitos Winter Championship to score a half-length victory in the $15,000 Garden Grove Handicap for older mares on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Gregorio Arriaga for trainer Scott Willoughby, Tres Of Linda also picked up her third career stakes victory after covering the 350 yards in :17.634. The 4-year-old daughter of Tres Seis also became the meet’s first multiple stakes winner as she added this win to her Grade 2 $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap victory on January 6. Her other stakes victory came in the   Adequan California Derby Challenger. Tres Of Linda now has two wins from three starts this season. Her lone setback was a seventh place finish to champion Hez Our Secret in the aforementioned Winter trial.

“She did not break as fast as she’s capable of that night,” Willoughby said. “She had a very tough trip from there and never had a chance to run her race. But she ran like she usually does in the Garden Grove. She never moved a muscle while she was in the gate waiting for the start and then she broke fast. She slipped a little bit at the beginning, but she got going from there. Mike Casselman’s horse (Attack The Cartel) hooked up with her from there and the two had a nice duel the rest of the way.”

Bred by her owners, Tres Of Linda earned $8,250 in the Garden Grove to lift her career earnings to $150,311. She’s won six of 13 career starts and even though her future as a broodmare is bright, the plan is let her keep looking for victories in 2013.

“She lives for this,” said Ru Anna Singletary. “She likes the competition. She likes it when there’s a horse racing right next to her. She wants to run. She’s enjoying it. I think our plan is to let her keep doing what she’s doing for the rest of the year. We’re in no hurry with her.”

Steve Burns’ Attack The Cartel earned $3,375 for her second place finish. Saddled by Mike Casselman and ridden by Cruz Mendez, the daughter of Corona Cartel ran second to Tres Of Linda in last year’s Adequan California Derby. She also competed in the Grade 1 $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge, Grade 1 Southern California Derby and most recently in the Cypress Handicap on January 20. She was disqualified from fourth to eighth in that race. Tac It To Heart finished third in this race to record her fourth consecutive in the money finish. Study Hall Pierce and Check N Fetch completed the field.
