Veteran rider Eddie Aceves piloted Flyin Kyle to a neck victory in Friday's fifth race to give the pilot his first win at Los Alamitos in more than a year. Aceves, 37, missed a good portion of the 2012 season due to an injury. In addition to his winning ride, he's also finished second with a couple of other mounts this season. He’s ridden a total of six Quarter Horses this year.
"I only had two mounts here last year because I got hurt," Aceves said. "I've been galloping horses for the past seven months while getting back in shape. Agent Frank Quezada has been helping me. It was nice to win a race again. I've ridden in New Mexico and Colorado, but it's good to be at Los Alamitos. I'll keep working hard and hopefully things keep picking up."
Aceves piloted IB Quick to the title of champion aged gelding in 1996. He's won 214 Quarter Horse races at Los Alamitos in his career.
