Don, Dan and Esther Wilson’s Jess Wilson continued his winning ways at Los Alamitos after scoring his seventh victory from his last nine starts here in Friday’s fourth race. The gelding by Feature Mr Jess scored his latest victory against a group of $20,000 conditioned claimers at 300 yards.
Trained by Paul Jones, the 4-year-old gray gelding had previously won races at the $10,000, $12,500 and $30,000 claiming levels. He also finished fourth to multiple stakes winner New Look in last year’s Town Policy Handicap. Ridden by Eduardo Nicasio, Jess Wilson covered the distance in :15.510. The homebred runner has spread his victories around over the past three years. He won two races as a 2-year-old in 2011 and three as a 3-year-old last year. He’s now won two out of three starts this season.
Rancho El Cabresto, Inc’s Shesa Stylish Chic finished second to Jess Wilson. The Check Him Out mare was making her first start since finishing fourth in the Native Empress Handicap on April 5. Jus Ledoux It, Hezaregal Charmer, Alittlebitofivory, Cash Him Out and R Womanizer completed the field.
Tony Doughtie’s Streakit Dasher broke his maiden thanks to a hard-fought neck victory over Yuriana Ramirez’s High On Fire in a 300-yard dash for 2-year-olds in Friday’s second race at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Cesar De Alba for trainer Paul Jones, Streakit Dasher covered the 300 yards in :15.866. The son of TR Dasher came into Friday’s race after running second to Masherati B in their debut back on April 27. Doughtie, who was the winning owner of the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity with Stel My Corona last year, purchased Streakit Dasher at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale. Runner-up High On Fire and third place finisher Coronadelpacifico were also part of last year’s Los Alamitos Equine Sale catalog.
Bred by Steve Burns, Streakit Dasher is out of the prolific Special Effort broodmare Streakit Special. On the racetrack, she was the runner-up in the La Primera Del Ano Derby and also competed in the PCQHRA Breeders Derby. Her sons and daughters include Quarter Horse Breeders Classic Sophomore Stakes winner First Special Dash, who also ran second in the Grade 1 Golden State Derby , the stakes winning Dashing With Johnny, Grade 1 Vessels Maturity runner-up A Streakinson and the stakes placed Awsome Ashley.
The aforementioned High On Fire is a full sister to champion and millionaire Higher Fire, the winner of the 2005 Ed Burke Million and Golden State Million futurities. Sired by Corona Cartel, A Regal Choice Inc’s Coronadelpacifico is out of the stakes placed Thoroughbred mare Trick And Fun.
