Owned and bred by Paul Jones and Chad Richard, Make A Wish For Me held off Jim Walker’s Time For Jesse Lee by a nose in the $43,349 John Deere California Juvenile Challenge  for 2-year-olds to improve his lifetime record to three wins in four starts on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Ramon Sanchez, Make A Wish For Me led from start to finish after a terrific break that saw the Brookstone Bay gelding open up a half-length victory. Time For Jesse Lee, who was second throughout, came flying in the final 100 yards and nearly caught the leader at the wire. Make A Wish For Me covered the 350 yards in :17.566 and has now earned a berth to the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship to be held on Saturday, November 9 at Los Alamitos.

Trained by Jones, Make A Wish For Me is named in memory of Emmanuel Curiel, the young racing fan who visited Los Alamitos Race Course in 2011 through the Make A Wish Foundation. Curiel, who was battling cancer, passed away just one month after his visit to Los Alamitos. He was 17 years old. Make A Wish For Me won his first two career starts before finishing second to Time For Jesse Lee in the trials. Out of the Separatist mare Asyouwish, the New Mexico-bred runner earned $20,452 for the win.

Trained by Monty Arrossa and ridden by Jay Conklin, Time For Jesse Lee earned $8,892 for finishing second. The precocious gelding by Mr Jesse Lee has won five of eight outings.  His wins included two at Emmett Race Track in Idaho, two at Les Bois Park also in Idaho and his trial win at Los Alamitos.

Porfirio Carrasco’s Tres Magicals earned $4,446 for finishing third. He was ridden by Eduardo Nicasio for trainer Jose De La Torre. The filly by Tres Seis posted a daylight victory in the trials and she’s now finished in the money in all five of her career starts. Jagger BR, Six Times Royal, Avatarr, Hes Chillin and KR Paddy Wagon completed the field.
