Trainer Mike Harrington, who has saddled the winners of more than 400 Thoroughbred races for earnings of over $17 million, enjoyed his first two winners at Los Alamitos Race Course on Saturday night.
Harrington, who is training his horses out of Los Alamitos Race Course, won the evening’s first race with Katherine Robertson and Rozamund Barclay’s Swiss Game (left) and the fifth event with Trial Spin, which he also campaigns. Both races were contested at 4 ½ furlongs. Trial Spin had finished fourth or lower in all 12 of previous starts in the Southern California Thoroughbred racing circuit, while the veteran Swiss Game was picking up his third win in 34 starts after arriving here from Northern California.
“I like (Los Alamitos),” Harrington said. “It’s a nice racetrack.”
Harrington’s barn at Los Alamitos includes the stakes winning colt Better Bet, a winner of two of 12 starts with earnings of $209,880. The son of Southern Image won the 2013 Golden State Juvenile Stakes. Harrington saddled Creative Cause to third place finishes in the 2012 Preakness Stakes and 2011 Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
