Jon Lane Henderson's My Devilish Diva (left) completed a fine weekend of racing for trainer Justin Clark on Sunday at Los Alamitos.
"Amazing week 3 for 3," said Clark on his Twitter feed @jcracing81. "What a year. I'm so lucky & realize there's no way to keep this up."
Clark has saddled eight winners on the season from only 17 starters for a terrific win ratio of 47%. My Devilish Diva has been a big part of Clark's fine campaign, as the French-bred Thoroughbred has won her last four outings at the Orange County track. Ridden by Devan Torres on Sunday, My Devilish Diva opened up a length advantage early on, but had to deal with Sudden Quest as they headed for home. My Devilish Diva dugged in during the stretch run before finishing strongly to score a ¾ length victory in the evening's third race.
She's been in that sort of a form the entire season and her previous two outings were easy wire-to-wire victories. She finished her 2013 campaign with a 4 ¾ length win on December 6. Torres seems to fit her like a glove, as he's been aboard on all four of her victories during this stretch. For her career, My Devilish Diva has won five of 16 career starts. As for Clark, the trainer also picked up victories during the past week with Henderson's Caliente Cat on March 28 and Big G's Secret Crab on March 29.
Julio Encinas and Paul Penuelas’ Im Just An Illusion absolutely loves to run from post number one at Los Alamitos. The veteran 6-year-old gelding by Visionarian has won in nine of his last 15 outings and during that stretch he is a five for six when leaving the gate next to the inside rail. His winning habit from this post began when he was trained by Lin Melton back on April 8, 2011, as he by a nose at 10-1 odds against $6,250 claimers at Los Alamitos. He has since won from his favorite post on December 9, 2011, July 7, 2012, February 14, 2014 and most recently in the eighth race last Sunday night for trainer Jose Flores. Im Just An Illusion’s only loss from post one during this span came in a stakes trial at Turf Paradise on September 28 when he finished in third place.
