Significant Heart, a multiple stakes winner and one of the top mares in Quarter Horse racing, will headline the running of the Grade 3 $25,000 Miss Princess Handicap on Sunday at Los Alamitos. The evening’s festivities will also feature a great Mother’s Day event in the Vessels Club featuring an outstanding buffet, group portrait, handicapping contest and more. Great seating locations are still available for Mother’s Day in the Vessels Club at Los Alamitos.
Owned by Abigail Kawananakoa and trained by Paul Jones, Significant Heart has been a tremendous performer in stakes races during her career. One of the top fillies in the country in 2013, the Corona Cartel mare won the PCQHRA Breeders Derby, Z Wayne Griffin Directors Trial and Lantys Jet Handicap last season. She also competed in the Champion of Champions and so far this year has already raced in the Charger Bar Handicap and Katella Handicap. She’ll be facing six top mares on Sunday.
The field is full of top distaffers with Denim N Diamonds Handicap winner Splendiferous Diva also ready to contend. The Separatist mare is a four-time winner in her career and in addition to the Denim N Diamonds she also won a PCQHRA Breeders Derby trial. Veronica Gail Worth owns the Sharon Brandsness-bred mare.
The stakes placed mare Forgotten Dynasty is also in action. Owned by Ron Hartley, Forgotten Dynasty has finished third or better in 10 of 17 starts with earnings of more than $40,000. Her top stakes efforts include a third in the Denim N Diamonds Handicap and a fourth in last year’s La Primera Del Ano Derby. California Breeders Debutante winner Chics On Fire, Betty Gun, Beautiful Fire and Barrel Babe will complete the field. Nine races are on tap.
