It was a Sunday to remember for jockey Eulices Gomez at Los Alamitos, as the pilot won four Thoroughbred races in a single racing program for the first time in his career on May 25. Gomez’s four victories came with his first four mounts on Sunday. He started the day by guiding Chris Fosselman and Charles Treece’s Billy Win to victory in the first, and rapidly followed it with a win aboard Thoro-Wolf Racing’s Top Torero (above) in the second race.
It was much of the same in the third, as Gomez rode Purple Starduster to victory for her new owners Maria Corina Rodriguez and Jorge Loma. Gomez waited until race number five to add another star, this time with Art Sherman, Robert Bach and Zvika Akin’s local newcomer Deli Dude.
“I’ve won three before in one night, but never had a golden sombrero,” Gomez said. “The races set up like we thought and I was able to capitalize on it. It’s about opportunity and preparation and things worked out today.”
“Eulices is on a roll tonight,” said Anna Wells of Sherman Racing. “Eulices had been getting on Deli Duke in the mornings.”
