Ed Allred’s Fire Cliff, who has posted solid runner-up stakes efforts in each of his last two starts, will now headline Sunday’s feature for 3-year-olds and upward on Sunday at Los Alamitos. Six quality sprinters will be in action for the 300-yard dash that is scheduled as the ninth race on the card. First post time is 5:30 p.m.

Trained by Scott Willoughby, Fire Cliff ran a game second to the talented Moonist in the $202,000 El Primero Del Ano Derby back on April 6. The Walk Thru Fire gelding then came back to finish second once again, this time to the red-hot Mr Its Country Time, in the Dillingham Handicap on May 17. Fire Cliff has only won one race in his career, but he’s always in the thick of the action. The homebred runner has been second or third in nine of 11 career starts.

Jesus Garera Garcia’s Huster Cartel is another runner to watch. The Corona Cartel colt was second in his last start, which came in an allowance race on May 2, and he’s been in the money three times in 8-race career. Juan Aleman will saddle him. Jesus Avila and Jesus Cuevas’ Kokomo Beach, who was ninth in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity last year, Phone Tag, Ocean Won Away and El Primero finalist Fire Shakin will complete the field. Ocean Won Away is the only 4-year-old in this race.
