Elsie Reynolds, a longtime council member of the Los Alamitos division of the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, passed away earlier this week following a sudden battle with cancer. Elsie was a beloved figure in the Los Alamitos chaplaincy and ever-present at the track’s Sunday services. Elsie was an ardent supporter of all of the local RTCA activities, particularly of programs that recognized the grooms in the local barn area. She was also a major part of the Los Alamitos RTCA council that was presented with a special recognition award at the 2010 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Awards Banquet.
Elsie and her husband, Monty, could always be found in the grandstand area, just outside of the walking ring, whenever one of their horses was competing at Los Alamitos. A huge lover of Quarter Horses, Monty always raced a horse or two at the Orange County oval and Elsie was always on hand to root on their horses. Their most memorable moment on the track came courtesy of the Linda Godinez-trained Hazel Last Pie. The mare won the Professional’s Choice Claiming Stakes on Bank of America Racing Challenge Night held at Los Alamitos in 2005.
“(Monty) appreciates all (the) thoughts and prayers,” Linda said. “Day by day it is a struggle, but having great friends and a wonderful family bond we will get through our loss. She is gone but never will be forgotten.”
A memorial service for Elsie Reynolds will be held at the Los Alamitos RTCA track church on Thursday August 7 at 6:00 p.m. The church is located where the Los Alamitos Equine Sale is held each year. For more information, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
