Hip 309 Annas Babe, the dam of Governor’s Cup Futurity winner AJS Annas Smoke, was the $145,000 high seller of the weekend after JGA Racing Stables purchased the 8-year-old broodmare from the consignment of Firth Ranch, Agent for the MacPherson Trust Dispersal on Sunday. By A Regal Choice and out of the Strawfly Special mare Babe On The Fly, Annas Babe is a half-sister of Grade 1 winners Little Talks and Rock You. She sold with a 2018 embryo by Separatist.

“You are always looking for opportunities, especially for a producing mare,” said Juan Aleman of JGA Stables. “Annas Babe threw that very good Separatist colt (AJS Anna Smoke) and when we saw her in the sale we were interested. She crosses well with Apollitical Jess. That was our focus on getting her. She’ll be going to James Ranch where Apollitical Jess stands. We’ll breed her, pull some embryos, breed her to Apollitical Jess. We bought another mare (Hip 307 AJS Anna Secret at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale) that also crosses with Apollitical Jess. We are looking for good mares and see if we get some good babies to run here at Los Alamitos.”

JGA Racing Stables also purchased an embryo out of Annas Babe by One Famous Eagle for $57,000. This embryo and also AJS Anna Secret were consigned by Firth Ranch, Agent for the MacPherson Trust Dispersal.
