Two thousand eight has started off with a bang for the horses that race under the name of Felix A. Gonzalez.  He might not have the numbers that some of the other stables do, but don't let that fool you.  From only eight starts since the beginning of the '08 meet, Gonzalez has made six trips to the winner's circle.  In addition to winning a whopping 75% of his starts, Gonzalez also has one second place finish to his credit.

Some of his best performers thus far were on display on February 1st and 2nd in the trials to the Los Alamitos Winter Derby and Championship.  On Saturday night, Gonzalez watched Superstar Dash rattle off his second consecutive victory in 2008 and qualify second fastest to the Los Alamitos Winter Championship.  Superstar Dash parlayed a victory over $75,000 claimers on December 30th into an impressive half-length win over Z Wayne Griffin Directors Trial winner Frankie Shoots and Fly Bar Special.  The ease in which this horse handled the jump in class is a real testament not only to the dangerous nature of Gonzalez's stable, but also the keen eye he has for talent.  Felix actually claimed Superstar Dash for $8,000 back on January 13th of 2007 and now he has the opportunity to become a Grade I winner.

Gonzalez also enjoyed success in the trials to the Winter Derby where his colt A Mere Chocolate won the Los Alamitos Winter Derby.  A Mere Chocolate is a three-year-old colt by The Chocolate Rocket out of the A Classic Dash mare A Mere Classic.  Gonzalez also campaigns the colt's half-brother, A Mere Splash, who had a banner year in 2007 winning the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes and the Grade 3 Vandy's Flash Handicap.

Additionally, Felix also owns the talented Feature Mr Liquidity, who qualified to the finals of two grade one stakes races in 2007, the Los Alamitos Super Derby and the Southern California Derby.  Most recently, he crushed a solid field of $50,000 claimers on January 18th by a length and a quarter and stopped the clock in 15:17, a sizzling time for the 300-yard distance.

Gonzalez's final two winners in the current meet, Feel O Effort and Shazoom Away, both came on the same night.  Feel O Effort won the seventh race on February 8th, a $20,000 claiming race, over Corona Jazz and Royal N Flashy.  Then two races later in the ninth, Gonzalez returned to the winner's circle again with Shazoom Away after defeating allowance company and earning a 96 speed index in doing so.  Leading trainer Adan Farias conditions both geldings.
