Career Profile: Trainer Charlie Bloomquist is one of only six trainers with more than 950 Quarter Horse wins at Los Alamitos. Blane Schvaneveldt, Paul Jones, Charles Treece, John Cooper, and Rodney Hart are the other trainers in that exclusive club. Elan Again was Charlie's first big horse as she captured the Go Man Go Handicap on her way to the title of champion aged mare in 1975. Frank Nakamura's Ah Sigh won divisional titles under Charlie's tutelage in 1994 and '95. He also conditioned Down With Debt to the world championship in 1994. Down With Debt's championship year included wins in the Vessels Maturity and MBNA America Challenge Championship. Some of his other top horses include Champion Solvency, I Owe You Me, who is the dam of Down With Debt and granddam of Fly Out Of Debt, Merridoc, who is now a leading sire, Dash Again and Kiptys Charger. In 1999, Dash For Kay provided Charlie with his 45th quarter horse stakes win at Los Alamitos, thanks to her dead-heat effort for first with multiple stakes winner Royal Miss Smith.
