"I had never won a stakes race before Catchmeinyourdreams came along and I've been in the sport since the late 1970s," said Kirk Goodfellow. "But I've also never had a horse of this caliber." Goodfellow was referring to the two-time champion gelding Catchmeinyourdreams. Over the past two years, the Pritzi Dash gelding has won the Los Alamitos Invitational Championship two times and the Go Man Go Handicap once. Catchmeinyourdreams has also participated in the Champion of Champions each of the past two years, finishing second in 2003.
The story of Catchmeinyourdreams began in 1998 with a brief conversation between Goodfellow and longtime California breeder James Markum. At the time, Goodfellow was in the market for a few broodmares and Markum suggested he buy Lizas Mystique from breeder Ed Allred. Goodfellow fell in love with the mare. The fact that she was carrying a foal sired by the Dash For Cash stallion Pritzi Dash helped seal the deal.
"I loved the mare and really liked her breeding. When I saw her pedigree and I felt that it needed some Dash For Cash blood so I loved the fact that she was bred to one of his sons in Pritzi Dash. I've had a love affair with Catchmeinyourdreams from the day he was born," said Goodfellow, who owns a ranch that houses about 25 horses in Minden, Texas. "My wife and I are market breeders and we usually have between four and five horses that we sell. We actually brought Catchmeinyourdreams to sell at the Vessels/Schvaneveldt Sale as a yearling but we ended up buying him back. I just could not let him go. He is the best that I've ever raised so we had to bring him back home. We had a lot of faith in him back then and we still do." Goodfellow has been around Quarter Horses his entire life. "I'm a Quarter Horse man," he said. "I love to ride them and I love chariot races. I even rode Catchmeinyourdreams in the winter a few years ago. One day I'll take him home and team rope on him."
