FRANK NAKAMURA

Frank Nakamura has been an ardent supporter or Quarter Horse racing for 25 years and has enjoyed some incredible years to horses like Ah Sigh and A Honey Of A Dash.
"As a modest breeder, I get filled with pride every time one of my babies wins a race."
A Honey of A Dash is Nakamura's leading active racehorse, having qualified to several graded stakes races last year. The daughter of First Down Dash is out of Gallant Bunny, a broodmare purchased by Nakamura from Edward Allred.
"Gallant Bunny is a Johnny Apollo mare, and I've had great luck with this line," Nakamura said. "Johnny Apollo is one of my favorite horses of all-time, and I've always felt that he was the fastest son of Easy Jet."
That's saying a lot, considering the fact that Easy Jet sired close to 1,400 winners that have earned more than $26 million. Johnny Apollo also sired Cindio, the dam of Ah Sigh, who is widely regarded as Nakamura's best sprinter ever. Ah Sigh won two AQHA divisional titles, including the honor of champion 2-year-old filly in 1994. Ah Sigh ruled her division the way Deceptively and Corona Chick dominated theirs, winning 8 of 9 starts, including the Ed Burke and Golden State futurities.
In addition to breeding and racing Quarter Horses, Nakamura has run a garden and nursery center in Whiftier, Calif., for the past 50 years. "I'm not completely retired from the business but my kids basically run the place," he said. "I'm frequently around, but I like to tell my kids that I'm more like the waterboy of the place."
