The customer is always right, says the universally accepted business
adage. So, when a couple of John Andreini's valued customers insisted on
sponsoring him for the famous Rancho Vistadores trail ride, John didn't think
twice about joining the ride. It didn't matter that he had never even been on a
horse. As a good businessman, he knew that his customers are always right. What
he didn't know was how much fun this day in the sun would be, or how much of an
impact it would have on the rest of his life.
Among the many people John met on that day was longtime trainer
Judd Morse, a winner of 410 Quarter Horses races at Los Alamitos. The two not
only struck an immediate friendship but also a partnership that led to great
success on the race track. John didn't have to wait too long for his first big
horse as Truly Truckle made a name for himself on the major Thoroughbred
circuit. Truly Truckle went on to sire the Quarter Horse Truckle Feature, the
World Champion sprinter in 1973. Over the years, John has owned close to 100
horses, including recent superstars like Champion Jumping Tac Flash and
Militante, a horse he owned along with Blane Schvaneveldt and Ronnie Keller of
Preston, Idaho. The trio also enjoyed stakes winner Corona Cocktail, a
full-brother to Champion Corona Kool. The sorrel colt finished third to Champion
Dashing Knud in both the Golden State and Ed Burke Memorial futurities and was a
finalist in the $1.25 Los Alamitos Million Futurity before being retired to
stallion duty at Blane's ranch in Romoland. John was part of another successful
partnership , as he campaigned two-time derby winner Check Him Out along with
Blane and Zory Kuzyk.
In the business world, John operates the Andreini Corp, the same
business that led him to the Rancho Vistadores ride in 1968. Located in San
Mateo, California, the Andreini Corp ranks as one of the largest insurance
brokerage firm in the United States. John is happy to be spending more and more
of his time around the track, watching and enjoying his horses. This
is where I want to spend most of my time. I have other guys that can run the
business. Being around the horses has been so much fun. It was so much fun when
I went on that very first trail ride to the point that I knew I wanted to be a
part of it. It was so much fun then and it's still great today.
John's current top horses include juveniles Fantastic Corona Jr,
Balboa Bay, and Jess Racy Eyes.
