      Owners Dennie and Kris Hill, who are ranchers in Blackfoot, Idaho, got their start in racing on the Eastern Idaho fair circuit before hitting the big time with former claimer turned stakes winner Raise A Lanty in the early 1990s. We didn't really get exposed to good, stakes-quality horses until we raced Raise A Lanty in the early 90s, Dennie Hill told the American Quarter Horse Racing Journal. Once we got exposed to graded-stakes-type horses, we decided to start looking for good, well-bred horses at sales. That's why we bought AB What A Runner. When I watched her move at the sale, I had a feeling she'd be a good one. 
 The couple purchased AB What A Runner for $67,000 at the 2001 Vessels/Schvaneveldt Yearling Sale. Hill's instincts were correct, and the couple celebrated their first champion runner in 2002 when AB What A Runner was named Champion 2-Year-Old Filly.  AB What A Runner would go on to win the Los Alamitos Derby and Charger Bar Handicap at Los Alamitos before retiring in January of 2005. We looked at the list of horses that have won the Los Alamitos Derby over the years and it is an honor to see our filly become part of that list.
      The Hills first celebration at Los Alamitos occurred in 1999 when their longshot Policy Tacs upset the applecart to win the MBNA America Challenge Championship. The Hills work with trainer Bret Vickery. Dennie and Kris Hill are class all the way, Bret said. They are great owners to work for and I have been blessed to have been able to train some great horses for them.
