SPANISH CARTEL IS SUCCESSFUL IN CASH FOR KAS BID

LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA... The hard knocking
mare Spanish Cartel has bumped heads against the top
distaffers at Los Alamitos for more than a year with little
success, that is until Friday's $15,000 Cash For Kas
Handicap. Ridden by Rodrigo Aceves for trainer Adan Farias,
Spanish Cartel flew in the final 110 yards of the 350-yard
race to catch Chalala in the final stage of the Cash For Kas.

Owned by A Regal Choice Inc's Spanish Cartel's late
lightning strike helped her score a half-length victory over
Chalala to give her win number three in six starts this year.
Spanish Cartel, who has won two in a row, gives Corona Cartel
another nice winner after the great stallion won his 100th
stakes victory earlier this month. Spanish Cartel covered the
distance in a fast :17.38 while earning $8,250 for the
effort. Bred by Erik and Francisco Flores, she has now banked
$53,566 in her career.

Spanish Cartel's most recent stakes outings were a ninth
place finish in the Los Alamitos Winter Derby in February of
2008, a seventh in the Dashing Folly Handicap last November,
plus a ninth in the January 3 Charger Bar Handicap and sixth
in the AB What A Runner Handicap on March 27. Those out of
the money finishes are now distant memories as Spanish Cartel
is currently enjoying the form of her life. Recently she's
posted a pair of 1-3/4 length wins against $40,000 claimers,
one of those coming in her previous start on May 3. Will she
continue to deliver? Her next start could come on California
Breeders Champions Night in the Matron Stakes on July 25.

Trained by the red-hot Juan Aleman, who was trying to pick
up his third Quarter Horse win of the night, Chalala
performed admirably, especially considering that she entered
the race after facing $10,000 and $12,500 claimers in her two
previous races. With Eduardo Nicasio in the irons, Chalala
pocketed $3,375 for her second place finish.

Multiple stakes winner Just Dash finished third and was
followed by AB What A Runner Handicap winner Shelbys
Surprise, 2007 California Breeders 550-Yard Sophomore Stakes
winner Look Her Over, Dimples First Dash, Flashin Dashin and
Cee Me Shake Em will complete the field.
