MASTERS CALL SYNDICATED
Masters Call, the $485,000 sale topper at the Oct. 7-8 Los Alamitos Equine Sale, has been syndicated announced Ed Allred, the all-time leading Quarter Horse Breeder and six-time AQHA Champion owner.
Ed Allred, who signed
the sale ticket for the sorrel colt, has sold 25% of Masters Call to prominent
owner and breeder R.D. Hubbard. Allred, a nine-time AQHA Champion Breeder, has
retained 25% ownership of the horse while the remaining 50% has been sold in 10
equal shares. The new syndicate members are; Sharon Brandsness, BR Livestock,
Chuck & Terryll Griffeth, Ron Hartley, Zory Kuzyk, Lisa McMahon, Don Moler,
Mark Parsons & Mark Parsons Jr. Harvey & Brenda Pickens, and Alessio,
Brown & Davies Llc.
"I am very excited
about this group," Allred said. "We have some excellent people involved."
Sired by leading Thoroughbred stallion Hennessy and out of the 1992 Grade 1 Golden State Futurity winning broodmare Check Her Twice, Masters Call is a full-brother to leading freshman sire Check Him Out. The latter won the Grade 1 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity in 2001 and the Grade 1 Golden State Derby and Grade 2 PCQHRA Breeders Derby in 2002.
Hubbard is the majority
owner of Ruidoso Downs and Zia Park and one of the leading owners and breeders
of Quarter Horses. He currently campaigns top gelding Planet Holland and is a
two-time Champion of Champions winner with Denim N Diamonds in 1981 and The Down
Side in 2003.
Brandsness campaigned the
Grade 1 winning mare Royal Dip and is the breeder of Grade 3 winner Soul of
Silence. Brad Hart's BR Livestock of Utah is a leading Quarter Horse racing
operation in the Intermountain region. Hart has won stakes races at Los Alamitos
with the likes of Sensual Lady and Vandi Chick. Chuck & Terryll Griffeth
co-bred The Down Side and currently campaign stakes winner Shining Down. Ron
Hartley was presented the Vessels Memorial Award at the 2006 PCQHRA Awards
Banquet for his countless contributions as an owner, breeder of Quarter
Horse
racing and as an outstanding racing official.
Zory Kuzyk owns Masters
Call's dam, Check Her Twice, and is the co-breeder of Masters Call. She is also
the co-owner and co-breeder of Masters Call's superstar older brother, Check Him
Out.
"I believe that Masters Call is one of the most gorgeous yearlings I've
ever seen," said Kuzyk, who along with D. Wayne Lukas consigned Masters Call to
the Los Alamitos Equine Sale.
"As Masters Call was growing up, I was concerned that maybe he would take
much longer to mature. I feel at this time that he has grown into the most
perfect looking Quarter Horse. He has all the right muscles, a powerful body and
a gorgeous neck. He has everything that you're looking for in a Quarter Horse.
On his pedigree side, he has obvious potential showing that he can easily run
440. We hope that he will develop like his brother Check Him Out, who has shown
the ability to sire horses with quickness, longevity, heart and desire to catch
rivals at the wire."
Lisa McMahon currently
campaigns red-hot aged mare Blazin Fire, the winner of the Grade 3 John Deere
California Distaff Challenge and runner-up in the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels
Memorial Handicap. Don Moler bred and was the co-owner of 2005 World Champion DM
Shicago. Harry & Brenda Pickens campaigned the outstanding All American
Jewel, who won the (RG2) Silver Dollar Futurity and (RG2) Bitterroot Futurity in
2000, the Grade 3 Vandy's Flash Handicap in 2001 and was runner-up to Make It
Anywhere in the '01 PCHRA Breeders Derby. Mark Parsons and his son, Mark Parsons
Jr., are a growing force in Quarter Horse racing as the owners of the talented
filly Choosy, who has qualified to the Grade 1 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity and
(RG1) Governor's Cup Futurity.
Alessio, Brown &
Davies LLC consists of PCQHRA President Bud Alessio, San Diego-based attorney
John Davies and C. Terry Brown, the CEO of Atlas Hotels Inc, which operates the
Town & Country Resort Hotel in San Diego's Mission Valley area. Davies, who
has on the University of California Board of Regents for 11 years, and Alessio
formerly raced their horses under the banner of First Estate Racing. Dash For
Kay, winner of the Blushing By Handicap and a Los Alamitos Million Futurity
finalist, was one of their most notable horses. Brown has enjoyed horses and
pleasure riding his whole life and currently owns a 2,600-acre ranch in San
Diego.
Allred and
Hubbard will split the cost for all bills and all future stakes payments on the
horse until he goes to stud. Until then, Masters Call will race exclusively at
Los Alamitos.
"The 10 syndicate members will not have to pay a single bill on this horse while he runs," Allred said. "Everyone is
very excited about Masters Call and now they're looking forward to seeing him
develop as a racehorse," said Allred's stallion manager Fred
Scane. -30- |
