It's that time of year again. The 13th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals will return to Los Alamitos Race Course on Saturday, July 19, 2008. The 50-yard dash for Dachshunds has been the most popular event at Los Alamitos each of the last 12 years with more than 110,000 people enjoying the event over the years. The 2007 event drew a record crowd of more than 12,000, the largest ever for the Wiener Nationals. The event concluded with a great final and an outstanding winner in Sally.

If you have a dachshund, or know someone that does, and would like to enter the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals at Los Alamitos Race Course here is what you need to do.

Write us a story and tell us why your Wiener Dog should be in the Wiener Nationals. Please make the letter as creative as possible because creativity, rather than speed, counts here. You can send us a drawing; poem; essay; funny photo; link to MySpace page; YouTube video, DVD or VHS tape, you make it and we will judge it. We'll return your entries at your request. All letters must be received by June 1, 2008 to be considered. IMPORTANT: Please include a phone number and a photograph of your prized dachshund.

Only 87 dogs will be selected to compete in a total of 11 trials with winner, or wiener, of each trial advancing to the Wienerschnitzel Wiener National at Los Alamitos Final.We expect to receive about 150 entries, so get your entry in early. There's no fee to enter - in fact your doggie will win $100 if he/she comes in first place in one of the trials and an additional $900 if he/she wins the championship race.

All of the trials, and the final, will take place Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Los Alamitos. The trials will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m. and the final will be held at about 9:30 p.m.

Wienerschnitzel will continue to sponsor the event for the 12th straight year and the 2008 running is expected to be bigger and better than ever. Of course, the entire purpose of this event is to raise funds for the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. We raised nearly $20,000 for the Care Center last year.
