![]() The 13th running of the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals will be on Saturday, July 19, 2008, with proceeds to benefit the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. The Care Center is a non-profit group dedicated to finding home for stray animals in the Orange County area. The first Wienerschnitzel Wiener National race is set for 6:15 p.m. with the live horse-racing program set to begin at 7:00 p.m. The Wiener Nationals Championship race will be held at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the event on a first come first seat basis. Tickets are $3. Children 17 and under are admitted free. Los Alamitos features free general parking. We suggest fans arrive early on the day of the event. For safety reasons, only dachshunds participating in the Wiener Nationals are allowed to come in to the racetrack. NO OTHER DOGS WILL BE ALLOWED. The purpose of this fun event is to raise funds for the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, a non-profit group dedicated to finding homes for stray animals in the Orange County area. Since 1996, the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals has helped raise $150,000 for the Care Center. Last year's event raised $20,000 through the sale of tickets and t-shirts. The Wiener Nationals features all the excitement of a Quarter Horse race, with a total of 87 dachshunds strutting their stuff in front of a packed house at Los Alamitos. A total of 11 trial heats will be contested at 50 yards with the winning wieners advancing to the championship race. Fans will be able to pick up FREE Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals program by all main track entrances. This special program will highlight all 87 participants, features the schedule of events, and additional information on the Seal Beach Animal Care Center.
