Twelve 2-year-olds posted gate works at 220 yards on Tuesday morning at Los Alamitos, the first morning in which the class of 2019 began their racing preparations for the current campaign. Among the 12 workers, six represented the barn of trainer Monty Arrossa, while the juvenile with the fastest time was the Favorite Cartel colt Favorite Mongoose, who posted a :12.40 clocking at 220 yards for Arrossa and owner Steve Wright. Here’s a quick look at the 12 juveniles that drilled on Tuesday at Los Alamitos.
La Vita Dolce (f, Seperate Interest – Classic Sassy Chic) Worked in :13.0 from the inside vs. Coronas Moon Flash. Her dam is the six-time stakes winner Classic Sassy Chic, who earned $221,377 and traveled from Los Alamitos to Lone Star Park to win the AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship.
Coronas Moon Flash (c, First Moonflash – Coronas Fast Honey) Worked in :12.5 from the outside vs. La Vita Dolce. This colt is a half-brother of Fire Fast Corona, the sixth place finisher in the 2016 Ed Burke Million Futurity. Coronas Moon Flash is also a half-brother of Alone In Fire, who raced in the trials to the Ed Burke Million, All American Futurity, and Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in 2016.
Malibu Moon Flash (f, First Moonflash – Bastet) Worked in :12.5 from the inside vs. Favorite Mongoose. Her third dam is the Northern Dancer Thoroughbred mare Savannah Dancer, winner of the Grade 2 Del Mar Oaks in 1985 and Santa Ysabel Stakes.
Favorite Mongoose (c, Favorite Cartel – Mongoose On Fire) Worked in :12.4 from the outside vs. Malibu Moon Flash. Dam was unraced, while second dam is the outstanding Charming Effort, whose great family includes Grade 1 stakes winner and champion Mongoose Jet Eye.
Cincinnatus Eagle (c, Flacaman – Go First N Famous) Worked in :13.4 from the inside vs. Monarch 59. Dam is a daughter of KR Tsunami, who produced his workmate in this drill, Monarch 59.
Monarch 59 (c, Favorite Cartel – KR Tsunami) Worked in :12.5 from the outside vs. Cincinnatus Eagle. Dam is a two-time winner of $25,693 and was stakes placed in Canada in 2009 and ’10.
Tell Tac (g, Tac It Like A Man – Just Wanna Teller) Worked :13.1 from the inside vs. Loose On Katella. Dam won three races, all at Sandy Downs. Second dam is Just Wanna Be Me, a winner of seven races and $56,927 including the 2005 Dashing Folly Handicap. She also ran second in that year’s Miss Princess.
Loose On Katella (f, Foose – Katie Katella) Worked in :12.5 from the outside vs. Tell Tac. Her dam finished in the top three in six of 17 starts and is the mother of seven-time winner Front And Center, winner of the 2015 First Down Dash Handicap.
Hold The Flash (f, First Moonflash – Hold Me Now) Worked in :12.6 from the inside vs. Dashing To Nola. Her dam won seven races and $109,005, including the 2007 Matron Stakes. Hold Me Now is the dam of the champion Matabari, a winner of $1,410,471 and three-time Grade 1 stakes winner at Los Alamitos.
Dashing To Nola (f, Heza Fast Dash – Nola Darling) Worked :12.5 from the outside vs. Hold The Flash. Dam won three races and $23,371 and was second in the 2000 West/Southwest Juvenile Challenge. She is the dam of the stakes winner Lifes Been Good, who finished third in the Grade 1 Southern California Derby in 2001 and qualified to the Grade 1 Vessels Maturity in 2012.
Azul Cartel (c, Jess Louisana Blue – Sarita Clarita) Worked 13.1 from the inside vs. Kiss Fast Zoom. His dam was winless, but granddam, Sarita Rose, was a three-time winner, including twice at Sam Houston Race Park.
Kiss Fast Zoom (c, Kiss My Hocks – Ms Fast Prize Zoom) – Worked :12.8 from the outside post vs. Azul Cartel. His freshman sire won three Grade 1 races, nine races in total and over $1.19 million. He was the 2-year-old champion in 2014. Ms Fast Prize Zoom is out of the world record holder Fast Prize Moon, winner of the 2008 West Texas Futurity. This is the family of First Prize Dash and it includes major stakes placed runners Fast Prize Tracy, Fast Prize Doll and Ms Fast First Prize.
