Dr. Steve Burns’ homebred Just Walk  By became the newest stakes winner out of the outstanding broodmare Babe On The Fly after scoring a hard-fought victory over Denim N Diamonds Handicap winner Time To Leave to win the $15,000 Danville Station Handicap at 350 yards on Friday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden from post number one by jockey Jesus Rios Ayala for trainer Mike Casselman, Just Walk By scored a head victory at odds of 6-1. The 4-year-old mare by Walk Thru Fire covered the distance in 17.800 while recording her fourth win in 18 starts. She earned $8,250 for the win to take her career earnings close to the $100,000 mark. She’s now earned $92,337. Just Walk By finished third in the Four Forty Blast Handicap last year and was second in the Grade 2 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity in 2017. This was her first start since finishing second in allowance event on December 16.

“She’s doing really well,” Casselman said. “We opted not to run in the Denim N Diamonds Handicap and we were kicking ourselves after that we didn’t do it. We didn’t have a race for her and then this handicap came up and it fit her well. She needed to run. She had been out a couple of months.”

Just Walk By’s dam is the outstanding Strawfly Special mare Babe On The Fly. A winner of $246,111 in her racing career, Babe On The Fly has been a stellar producer for more than a decade. She’s the dam of Grade 1 stakes winners Rock You and Little Talks and of stakes winners Fly Thru The Fire and Carne Vino. She also is also the dam of Glock, the runner-up in the Ruidoso Derby and First Down Dash Derby and finalist for the Rainbow Derby in 2015. Just Walk By now joins the stakes winners in her family.

Future plans for Just Walk By have yet to be confirmed. She has been bred in the past according to Casselman.

“It took her a little while to get back into form after she came back from the ranch,” he said. “She’s getting back (to top form) now. We’ll see what Dr. Burns says is next. It is breeding season.”

Ridden by Vinnie Bednar for trainer Scott Willoughby, Time To Leave earned $3,375 for running second. Ed Allred bred and owns Time To Leave. Newport Coast, La Rusa and Strawfinders Jessee completed the field. Love To Reason BR was scratched.
