               Hubbard, Benson and Stowe’s Socially Significant posted the morning’s fastest 220-yard gate work when covering the distance in :12.20 on Saturday, April 20 at Los Alamitos. Trained by Jose Flores, Socially Significant was sharp while working from the outside post.

              Bred in Oklahoma by Bobby Cox, the filly by Corona Cartel is a full-sister to 2014 AQHA champion aged mare Significant Heart. The superstar distaffer won six stakes races in her outstanding career including the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Handicap, Grade 3 Las Damas Handicap and Grade 3 Miss Princess Handicap during her championship winning campaign. Significant Heart earned $257,297 in her career. Socially Significant and Significant Heart are out of the stakes winning mare Jess Significant, who earned $419,635 in her career. Jess Significant won the 2008 Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity and was fifth in that year’s Grade 1 All American Futurity.

            Socially Significant is eligible to compete in the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity, Grade 1 Golden State  Million Futurity and Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. She’s also eligible to race in the trials to the Los Alamitos Oaks in 2020. Here are some of the other notables that worked on April 20:

·         Mia Cartel (:12.3) California-bred filly by Fast Prize Cartel out of Eyesontheprice, an unraced daughter of First Rate Choice, who is from the family of the blue-hen mare Harems Choice. The latter produced All American Futurity winner Royal Quick Dash and Grade 1 winning champion First Sovereign plus many more. First Rate Choice earned $98,220 in her career and was a overnight handicap winner at Los Alamitos. She also finished third in the 2003 La Primera Del Año Derby. First Rate Choice qualified to the Kindergarten Futurity and Governor’s Cup Futurity. Mia Cartel is a full sister to Fast Amanda Rose, a winner at Los Alamitos.  

·         Max My Bullets (:12.5) California-bred filly by Corona Czech an out of Gimme Back Mybullets, who has been a nice producer. Her sons and daughters include: Perryczech ($58,440), the fourth place finisher in the 2014 Kindergarten Futurity and runner-up in the Bitterroot Futurity; I Wont Give Up ($39,475) a four-time winner; and Rhemy Marko ($23,202) a two-time local winner.

·         Whatever You Think (:12.5) Colorado-bred colt by Apollitical Jess and out of Hay Gud Lookin. His second dam is Fancys First Affair, a graded stakes winner at Los Alamitos of $102,745. Fancys First Affair is the dam of the graded stakes placed runner Purty Fancy Dude and Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby finalist I Like My Chances.

·         Acelerado (:12.4) Florida-bred filly by Apollitical Blood and out of Doing Some Winning, whose female family goes back to the Thoroughbred mare  Crank It Up, who won four races including a stakes event at Canterbury Park. Doing Some Winning is the dam of Do U Zoom, who ran second in the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity at Ajax Downs in Canada.

·         Sister Jean (:12.5) California-bred filly by Favorite Cartel and out of the Thoroughbred mare Sister Lucy, a daughter of Lit De Justice and a winner of her last final three career starts at Los Alamitos.

·          Whatever You Think (:12.5) Colorado-bred colt by Apollitical Jess and out of Hay Gud Lookin. His second dam is Fancys First Affair, a graded stakes winner at Los Alamitos of $102,745.
