Jesus Daniel Padilla's Baby Special Corona is showing that she's grown into a terrific filly, especially after winning the Debutante Stakes on California Breeders Champions Night by 3/4 lengths on July 27.
The Two Corona Special filly will now look to make her rivals feel like lonely hearts when she headlines the $25,000 Sgt Pepper Feature for 3-year-olds on Saturday night at Los Alamitos. Baby Special Corona will be going after her third win in a row, quite a turnaround after beginning her racing career with five consecutive losses.
“She’s improved every time," trainer Felix Gonzalez said. "I've always hoped that her talent would eventually show. She's gotten it done in her last two starts."
A full-sister to Champion of Champions finalist Da One Two Special, Baby Special Corona will take on a strong group that includes three-time local stakes winner KR Hi Five and recent Catchmeinyourdreams Handicap winner Bos Time Machine.
Owned by Dave and Sally Kidd, KR Hi Five won the Wild West Futurity and John Deere Juvenile Challenge last year. He also scored in the Adequan California Derby earlier this year. The stakes placed filly Mayas Signature and her stablemate Fast Amanda Rose, both from the red-hot barn of EG High Desert Farms, claiming stakes winner Topock Gorge and Arizona Favorite will also be a part of this 350-yard race.
