              The 15th annual Los Alamitos Equine Sale enjoyed a strong opening session on Saturday, posting double digit increases in the gross sale of yearlings and the yearling sale average.

A total of 108 yearlings were purchased for an average of $25,054 during the first day, an increase of 15% from 2018 when 111 yearlings sold for an average of $21,853 during the opening session. Yearling gross sales on Saturday totaled $2,705,800, up 12% from the day one figure of $2,425,700 last year.

Bujanda Racing Stables purchased Hip 156 Tyson Fury, a Walk Thru Fire colt out of the Strawfly Special mare Babe On The Fly, for $160,000 to make him the session topper.  Consigned by Burns Ranch, Inc., Tyson Fury is a full brother to stakes winners Fly Thru The Fire ($144,125) and Just Walk By ($92,637).  He’s also a half-brother to Rock You ($790,325), the winner of the Grade 1 Ruidoso Derby and Grade 1 All American Gold Cup, and Little Talks ($563,897), the winner of the Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity and Grade 3 PCQHRA Breeders Derby.  The blue-hen mare Babe On The Fly has produced eight stakes winners during her time as a broodmare.  Tyson Fury is eligible to all of the major futurities at Los Alamitos Race Course and Ruidoso Downs. 

Bujunda Racing Stables also purchased Hip 77 SC Divas Famous Man, a colt by One Famous Eagle out of AQHA champion aged mare Spit Curl Diva, for $100,000. Consigned by Lazy E Ranch, SC Divas Famous Man is a half-brother to Coronas First Diva ($496,377), the AQHA champion 2-year-old filly in 2016. SC Divas Famous Man is also a half brother to SC Vapor Trail, winner of the Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge.

Salvador Campos purchased Hip 79 Sweet Haert for $100,000 on Saturday. Consigned by Vista Equine Colorado, the One Sweet Jess filly is out of Stars R Blue, the dam of winners King Candy and Cartel Star. Her dam is Run The Dash, who produced the 2007 AQHA World Champion Blues Girl Too and the Grade 1 winner Blues Man Too.

Haras Portofino purchased Hip 81 A Solid Reason, a filly by Good Reason SA out of Strawfly Lady for $100,000. A Solid Reason is a half-sister to Captain Strawfly ($166,129), the winner of the 2013 Grade 2 Dash For Cash Derby.   

A total of 14 yearlings sold for $50,000 or more during the Saturday session.
