Reliance Ranches’ homebred filly Conquering Marie posted her second stakes win of the year after outdueling a field of eight in the $15,000 Jaimie Jay Handicap for sophomore fillies on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Ruben Castro for trainer Mike Robbins, Conquering Marie broke sharply from post six and then pulled away to win by ¾ lengths over the stakes placed filly Jess Send It. She covered the 350-yard distance in :17.559.

Conquering Marie has enjoyed a strong 3-year-old campaign. She was third in the Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge at Ruidoso Downs in early summer before winning the Grade 2 Golden State Derby at Los Alamitos in mid-August. After running second in the trials, she finished a game fourth against a quality field in the Grade 3 PCQHRA Breeders Derby on October 4. Her victory in the Jaimie Jay is her second in eight starts this year and her fifth in 16 career outings.

Conquering Marie is a Reliance Ranch-bred through and through, as the Oklahoma-based racing operation campaigned both her sire and dam. Reliance Ranches raced Coronado Cartel to a very successful career in which he earned over $400,000 while winning the Mr Jess Perry Stakes and racing in the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity. Conquering Marie’s dam, Illegal Fireworks, won the 2011 Grade 3 Junos Request Handicap on the way to earning $181,901. Conquering Marie earned $8,250 to take her career earnings $143,593.

Making her first start of 2019, Keith Nellesen’s Jess Send It earned $3,375 for her runner-up effort. Jesus Rios Ayala piloted the filly for trainer Monty Arrossa. Jesus Nava’s Jess Flashee finished third. Estelline, Anas Image, Tazs Tiny Pebble, Mommas Dynasty, Locomotion Girl, and No Telling completed the field.
