What a weekend it was for jockey Ramon Guce.
The “Goose” won a total of nine races over the three-nights of racing at Los Alamitos, including four-win nights on both Saturday and Sunday. At one point, Guce won races with six consecutive mounts. He won with his final four mounts on Saturday and then came back on Sunday to win the first two races. Guce piloted Rule He Will to victory in the $20,000 Wheatland Handicap to complete his grand slam on Saturday. Appropriately, Guce won the final race of the weekend by guiding the talented Ballast Point to victory in featured $17,000 allowance at 870 yards on Sunday night. The win on Ballast Point completed his grand slam on Sunday night.
“This was a great weekend,” Guce said. “It was a lot of fun. I also won a race on Friday night. It’s been incredible. I’m so blessed.”
Guce is currently the overall leading rider at the meet with 45 victories. He’s also the all-time leading Thoroughbred rider at Los Alamitos with 1,135 career wins. Guce’s wins this week came with Delta Forum on Friday, Mela Jones, Restless Rambler, Speedy Sign and the aforementioned Rule He Will on Saturday, and with Rough Passage, Toothless Wonder, Undeniable Proof and Ballast Point on Sunday.
Owned by Paul Jones and Thompson Racing LLC’s Ballast Point was in total control of the 10th race on Sunday night. The Quarter Horse by Favorite Cartel was always on the lead and won easily by 4 lengths. His winning time was hand-timed at :44.50.
