RACE 6
2-YEAR-OLDS MAIDENS AT 300 YARDS
#1 Squid Word – April 18 :12.40 at 220 yards - Inside horse
The $72,000 purchase at the Heritage Place Sale outworked the Favorite colt Dutch Flat 12.4 to 12.8 on April 18. Squid Word will break awkwardly and then veered to the inside. He will straighten past the gap and pull away from foe. He is asked twice and will continue to pull away from foe on the way to winning by 1 ½ lengths. Squid Word continues with a solid gallop out. This was the 3rd fastest of 39 works.
#2 Katella Avenue – May 2 :12.50 – Outside horse
Foose gelding outworked the filly Inaudible :12.5 to 13.0 on May 2. He is not using blinkers in this work, will break inward and brush foe. He is running a bit greenly early on – moving down the straightaway with his head turned towards the grandstand apron. He does show good acceleration and when asked right-handed he takes off with a quick burst of speed. He has a nice stride late and will win by 3 lengths followed by a powerful gallop out. This was the 5th fastest of 15 drills.
#3 Landrum Lane – April 4 :12.50 – Outside horse
This gelding by Favorite Cartel and out of the major stakes finalist Miss Kittys Bar Bet will post the 17th fastest of 49 drills when outworking debut winner A Solid Reason 12.5 to 12.6. Landrum Lane hesitated at the start but left the gate in straight fashion. He was tapped once and had an advantage over the filly A Solid Reason. Will finish strong while under a tight hold and crosses the wire a half-length ahead of A Solid Reason before displaying a good gallop out.
#5 Favorite Folly – April 21 :12.20 – Outside horse
A $40,000 purchase at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale, this gelding by Favorite Cartel will eventually outwork rival rather easily after a bit of early trouble in this drill. Favorite Folly stumbled, broke in and bumped hard right from the start before shifting to the outside. He will race with his head turn leading his rider to adjust as they continued to the wire. Favorite Folly shows bigtime ability from there, pulling away from workmate, Grag Chasing, and will win by 3 ½ lengths and then strides out powerfully past the wire. This was the fastest of 17 drills.
#6 Swinging Mr Cartel – April 30 :12.40 – Inside horse
Purchased for $12,000 Heritage Place Sale, Swinging Mr Cartel outworked Carefree Highway 12.4 to 12.5. Video is not available for review.
#8 The Last Cly – May 2 :12.50 – Outside horse
The Last Cly worked evenly with stablemate Maya India on May 2 – with both posting :12.5 clockings. The Last Cly is out of the Thoroughbred mare Clydette, who is also the dam of Miss Princess Handicap winner Clydette Mia and multiple graded stakes finalist Jimmy Delivers. The Last Cly is quick out of the gate but breaks inward. He is asked three-times right-handed and then several more times during the 2nd half of the drill. He will finish the drill a ½ length behind Maya India and will then have an okay gallop out.
#9 Dynastik – April 21 :12.60 – Inside horse
The FDD Dynasty gelding is outworked by Cartels Legacy 12.3 to 12.6 on April 21. Cartels Legacy was a wire-to-wire winner in her debut in a time of :15.806 on May 8. Dynastik hesitated at the start and drifted inside. He was asked right-handed early on before continuing under a hand ride in the final 75 yards. He will cross the wire 1 ¼ lengths behind Cartels Legacy. He shows a good gallop out while posting the 10th fastest of 17 drills.
RACE 7: 2-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN FILLIES AT 300 YARDS
#1 My Candy Moon – April 18 :12.50 at 220 yards – Outside horse
Homebred filly out of First Moonflash, she will outwork Candys Payday 12.5 to 12.7. My Candy Moon is fidgety in the gate and will break in and bumps foe. She comes away with the lead and will be asked several times left-handed. She will win the drill by a length and will be under wraps in her gallop out. Her time was the 9th fastest of 39 spins on April 18.
#2 Favorble – April 21 :12.40 – Outside horse
Filly by Favorite Cartel will outwork El Cuervo Favorito in this drill. Note that this was El Cuervo Favorito’s first workout while Favorble was making his second gate drill. El Cuervo Favorito is also in action in Friday’s eighth race. As for Favorble, she will bobble at the start but shows nice quickness while under a hand ride. She drifts to the inside but has a big lead and will cross the wire 2 ½ lengths ahead of El Cuervo Favorito. She will continue with good energy past the wire and her :12.40 clocking is the 4th fastest of 17 drills on April 21.
#4 Sweetie Cartel – April 23 :12.20 – Solo work
Filly was hard to load and acted up in gate for over 30 seconds. She was fractious and assistant starter worked hard to finally get her pointing straight ahead. After being in the gate for a long time, Sweetie Cartel breaks nicely and will be hand-ridden throughout. She runs in a straight path and will finish the drill with a solid gallop out. She was a $35,000 Ruidoso Sale purchase.
#5 Powerline Road – April 30 :12.60 – Outside horse
Outworked the gelding Baccarat Attack 12.6 to 13.0 on April 30. Video is not available for review.
#7 A Blue Girls Candy – March 26 :12.50 – Outside horse
Was outworked by the Walk Thru Fire filly Diva On Fire 12.4 to 12.5 on March 26. Diva On Fire was third to Valantini in their racing debut on April 24 when covering the distance in :16.030. In this workout, A Blue Girls Candy stands perfectly in the gate, breaks cleanly before rider loses whip as he prepares to encourage the filly. He will encourage the filly by using his hand and will lock horns with Diva On Fire. Rider will let her continue on her own after that point and will cross the wire a neck behind Diva On Fire. A Blue Girls Candy finished with the 7th of 27 fastest times on March 26.
RACE 8: 2-YEAR-OLDS MAIDENS AT 300 YARDS
#3 Teller With Candy – April 28 :12.20 – Solo work
Jess Good Candy gelding will float out after about six to seven steps out of the gate. He levels out at about the 100-yard mark and will be hand-ridden from there before posting a solid gallop out. He finished the fastest of 12 drills on April 28. Teller With Candy was purchased for $42,500 at the Heritage Place Sale.
#4 Mysterious Identity – April 28 :12.40 – Outside horse
Favorite Cartel filly is out of Hardly Hateful, who ran second in both the Grade 1 Los Alamtios Two Million Futurity and Rainbow Futurity. She will outwork Curvy Path 12.4 to 12.7 in this work. Curvy Path is by Favorite Cartel and out of the top broodmare Tahma Hawk. Mysterious Identity works without the use of blinkers here and will leave the gate cleanly while going in a nice, straight path. She looks stronger with each stride while moving under a hand-ride as jockey sits chilly. She will win the drill by 1 ½ lengths.
#5 El Cuervo Favorito – May 2 :12.40 – Middle horse
Will work as part of a three-horse team on May 2. The gelding will outwork Conga Blanca to his inside and Docs Tiene Fire to his outside in times of 12.9, 12.4 and 12.6. El Cuervo Favorite is antsy in the starting gate yet breaks cleanly and in fact, all three enjoyed good starts. El Cuervo Favorite shows eye-catching quickness and he pull away from the competition without being asked. He continues under a hold and will finish the drill with a nice gallop out. His time was the 4th fastest of 15 works.
#6 Favorite Colossus – May 2 :12.30 – Inside horse
Will outwork the filly One Sweet Venom 12.3 to 12.9 on May 2. Favorite Colossus will fly out of the gate and will be hand-ridden early. He continues to move smoothly all on his own and will cross the wire 2 ¼ lengths ahead of rival. He continues to stride out right after the wire before slowing down around the clubhouse turn. This was the fastest of 15 drills on May 2.
#8 Alltime Favorite – April 21 :12.40 – Inside horse
Worked evenly with the Carters Cartel gelding Transcendeur, who ran fourth in a time of :16.119 to Constituent when debuting on May 8. Leaving the gate from the inside post, Alltime Favorite leaves the gate cleanly before being asked four times after the gap. The two workers continue evenly together with Alltime Favorite racing on his own in the final 50 yards while crossing the wire ahead of Transcendeur. He completes the drill with a strong gallop out when posting the 4th fastest of 17 drills.
