LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE OWNER ED ALLRED DONATES $18,560

TO THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF GREATER ANAHEIM-CYPRESS

The community spirit continues to be at the forefront of Los Alamitos Race Course this holiday season with racetrack owner Ed Allred donating $18,560 to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Anaheim-Cypress in the form of a check on Tuesday afternoon.

George Pardon, a board member with the Los Alamitos Quarter Horse Racing Association, made the check presentation to John Machiaverna, the Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Anaheim-Cypress.

“This comes at a great time,” Machiaverna said. “We are struggling to keep our doors open. We have a limited number of kids that can come into the facilities now, so every dime is very important. We are doing food distributions, we are serving families, we are helping kids, and we have expanded our outreach to include whole families. We really appreciate it.”

Los Alamitos Race Course and the Boys & Girls Club in Cypress have had a great long-standing relationship. The Club has conducted its annual fundraiser, “Keeping Kids On Track”, in the Vessels Club at the track for the past several years, and the track’s popular Halloween Carnival has been held with the Club helping to provide volunteers and adding exposure for the event. Part of the proceeds from the Halloween Carnival benefit the Boys & Girls Club in Cypress. Neither event was held this year because of Covid-19.

“This donation is presented on behalf of Dr. Allred, the owner of the racetrack,” Pardon said. “He wants to make sure that especially during this time that he doesn’t forget the boys and girls in our community. He wants to continue to do his part to support the Boys & Girls Club.”

The donation represented Allred’s net earnings from his 4-year-old Quarter Horse Chocolatito’s start in the Grade 1 Champion of Champions on December 12. Allred had previously pledged to donate Chocolatito’s net earnings in the Champion of Champions. The Favorite Cartel gelding finished fourth in the prestigious 440-yard race.

Los Alamitos Race Course will kick off its new season on the night after Christmas, Saturday, December 26. Live racing will be held Friday through Sunday night. No spectators are currently allowed inside the facility with the racing program being conducted with only essential working personnel in attendance.
