HIGH ROCK TELLER ROCKETS TO VICTORY IN CYPRESS SPEED STAKES
Haras Portofino’s High Rock Teller was fifth out of the break but he flew from there to outfinish some of the quickest horses on the ground to win the $20,000 Cypress Speed Stakes at 110 yards on Friday night at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Ramon Sanchez for trainer Paul Jones, High Rock Teller covered the distance in :07.241 at 7-1 odds. Winless in his first six career starts, the gelding by Teller Cartel has now picked up back-to-back victories. He earned $11,000 for this win to more than double his career earnings to $21,740. Wootan Racing bred the 3-year-old out of the Shazoom mare Eyes A Shazoom.
The win is an important one for Sanchez, as this is 148th career stakes win at Los Alamitos. He is now five stakes wins shy from tying Eddie Garcia for the all-time mark at the Orange County oval.
Jaime Gomez’s Up To Hit earned $4,500 for running second. The top two finishers were followed across the wire by Reason To Stay In, Makalerina, La Reina Del Sur 1, Tearfully, Apollitical Glory Jpm and Nomadess. The Best Feeling was scratched.
