GATE WORKS - SATURDAY, JUNE 12

RACE 4 – MAIDEN CLAIMERS $10,000 – 2-YEAR-OLDS – 300 YARDS

#4 Iron Soul – May 11 :12.80 at 220 yards

Outside Horse: Filly by Docs Best Card outworked Firelicious 12.8 to 13.5 from the outside post on May 11. She was moving around before the start and then hopped out of the gate. She moved with quick, short strides early on while opening a big lead past the gap. She was asked twice left-handed around the 1/16th pole and cruised to the wire from there. She kept flashing speed after the wire before cruising around the clubhouse turn. This was the 6th fastest of 10 works.

RACE 5 – CLAIMING $16,000 – 3-YEAR-OLDS – 330 YARDS

#4 Delighted – April 20 :12.20 at 220 yards

Outside Horse: Seperate Interest gelding worked evenly from the outside post vs. Heartless Creditor on April 20. He broke in and brushed Heartless Creditor at the start. He was corrected back into his racing path and got into a solid stride from there. The two fought gamely while racing evenly. He worked hard on his own and finished just slightly behind his rival. It was a very competitive drill and an excellent workout for both runners.

RACE 6 – ALLOWANCE  – 3-YEAR-OLDS – 300 YARDS

#7 Top Model – May 22 :18.30 at 350 yards

Outside Horse: Will be making her first start since January and comes in after a pair of morning works. Her last drill was this effort from the outside post vs. Vessels Maturity trialist Cattail Cove on May 22. Top Model broke nicely and matched early strides with Cattail Cove. She was asked right-handed twice, flagged a couple of times at the gap and was encouraged again as her Grade 1 stakes place rival began to pull away. She kept working hard to the wire while finishing behind her foe. Top Model continued with a solid gallop out from there. She had the seventh fastest of 13 works on May 8th when going 220-yards in a turn-and-work in 12.50.

RACE 7 –VESSELS MATURITY TRIAL  – 4-YEAR-OLDS & UP – 400 YARDS

#3 Kiss My Astica – May 25  :18.10 at 350 yards

Outside Horse: She’s one of two mares competing in the Vessels Maturity trials. She’s also making her Los Alamitos debut and arrives from Lone Star Park. She’s posted a pair of morning works, most recently posting the bullet drill when winning her drill vs. Matildo Cartel in :18.10 on May 25. Kiss My Astica broke awkwardly and was a bit spread out at the first jump before quickly regaining her stride. She was flying from there, looking sharper with each stride and getting into a nice groove at the gap. She continued solidly to the wire and past the finish line and had a very strong gallop out. She also had the bullet work on May 5 when posting a 220-yard turn and work in :12.10.

#8 Made Over – April 20 :17.80 at 350 yards

Solo Work: Returns to action after a strong fourth place finish in the Grade 1 Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship on February 14.  He’s had three workouts since that start with this solo gate drill being the second of the three drills. Working with no blinkers here, he bobbled out of the gate and was under a hold as he moved with his head turned sideways early on. He was moving in good fashion past the gap and really garnered speed from there as he continued gliding over the track while under a hold the entire way. He also posted 220-yard turn and works in :12.30 on April 3 and May 14.

RACE 8 –VESSELS MATURITY TRIAL  – 4-YEAR-OLDS & UP – 400 YARDS

#3 Summer Cartel – March 6 :12.20 at 220 yards

Solo Work: Missouri-bred has not raced since November of 2019 when breaking his maiden at 400 yards and Zia Park. She’s posted four works here since early March, including two from the gate. Her last gate work came on April 3, but the video picked her half-way through the drill. In her gate work on March 6, she left sluggishly and towards the inside before settling into a nice rhythm without being asked. His time was the fastest of 33 posted that morning. She also had two turn and works in May, a 350-yard work in :18.50 and a 220-yard drill in :12.50.

#4 Cattail Cove – May 22 :18.0 at 350 yards

Inside Horse: The Grade 1 stakes placed runner will be making his 2021 debut. The gelding by Favorite Cartel comes in after outworking Top Model from the inside post in 18.0 to 18.3. Cattail Cove looked powerful right out of the gate and was fast into his stride. He was flagged early on and then asked right-handed once. He was flagged again at the gap, and he responded nicely to speed away from his rival. Cattail Cove sailed on from there, winning the drill by two lengths while looking razor sharp before continuing with a solid gallop out.

GATE WORKS - SUNDAY, JUNE 13

RACE 5 – MAIDENS – 2-YEAR-OLDS – 300 YARDS

#1  Hopefulblue – May 25  :12.20 at 220 yards

Outside Horse: Will be making local debut after a pair of starts at Turf Paradise. Owned and bred by PCQHRA Owner of the Year Martha Wells, the Foose filly was a bit antsy before the start and then left the gate with a little skip and a hop. She hit her stride in a flash and was hustled past the gap. She started floating in at the midway point, was corrected left-handed and had a huge lead over her workmate. She continued sharply from there, winning the drill by three lengths and she kept her velocity at top gear passed the wire before shutting off her engine around the clubhouse turn. Good looking drill from the newcomer from the Grand Canyon State.
