KOALITION LOOKING TO BECOME A MULTIPLE STAKES WINNER

Bobby Cox’s homebred mare Koalition will look to become the meet’s first multiple stakes winner when she headlines a field of eight mares in the $35,000 Denim N Diamonds Stakes on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Koalition has been a speed demon in her two recent local starts. She won a 110-yard race in flashy style on December 17 and then returned  to post a wire-to-wire victory in the $25,000 Dashingly Handicap on New Year’s Day. With those two efforts in her resume, she looks tough heading into the Denim N Diamonds.

The Apollitical Jess filly is out of the Grade 1 stakes winning mare Nellie Delaney. Prior to her California arrival, the 4-year-old Texas-bred had previously won an allowance event at Lone Star Park and competed in the Rainbow Oaks at Ruidoso Downs.

“She had always shown a lot of talent, a lot of promise, just had had a lot of bad luck in the finals,” Taylor said. “We needed some black type on her record. Los Alamitos is obviously second to none and has made such a commitment to the mare program and so that (110-yard) race really sharpened her up here. She’s really coming into herself, and she’s won three in a row now. The whole goal was to get here, find her a stakes race and hopefully run in the top three.”

The field will also feature Cr Lady Moon, who finished second in the Dashingly Stakes, and recent stakes winner Letty Cartel, Up To Good, All Prettied Up plus Ms Ko, Hitters Count, and Crystal Prize.
