CHOOSEN ONE IS LATEST KVN CORONA JUVENILE TO IMPRESS AT LOS ALAMITOS
Talk about a key workout. On March 18, trainer Heath Taylor worked the Keith Nellesen-owned trio of Think Again Kev, Political Rivalry, and Choosen One in a 220-yard gate drill.
Think Again Kev and Political Rivalry flashed star talent right away, flying to the wire in matching bullet times of :12.10. Meanwhile, Choosen One, who worked from the inside post, was bumped by Political Rivalry and then was crowded by his rival, but he still posted a strong :12.40 clocking. On average, that level of velocity wins a runner most gate drills when traveling with company at Los Alamitos.
Sure enough, the solid work was a precursor to success for Choosen One, as he followed his drill with an impressive debut victory with Jose Nicasio aboard here on Sunday night. Choosen One’s victory also came less than 24 hours after Nellesen, Taylor, and Nicasio combined to score a winning triple. Two of those three wins came courtesy of the workmates Think Again Kev and Political Rivalry, but it was Choosen One’s maiden win that was the fastest of all. Leading from start to finish, Choosen One won his debut in a rapid :12.02, a click faster than his stablemate Think Again Kev’s :12.036 clocking on Saturday. It gave Choose One the fastest win by a 2-year-old so far this season, while becoming the fourth juvenile winner this season sired by Nellesen’s KVN Corona. Along with Think Again Kev and Political Rivalry, the filly Knockout Kevin also won on Saturday night. All four young winners are eligible to race in the trials to the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity on Sunday, April 23. With such a level of success, that gate work on March 18 might become one rewatch and enjoy since all gate works are available for review and analysis at LosAlamitos.com.
