EVASIVE WINS CLAIMING FUTURITY, HEZ LONESOME TAKES THE CASH

Owned and bred by Ed Allred, Evasive was too elusive for his competition to catch, as the gelding by Fly Thru Fire took the lead shortly after the start on the way to scoring a solid victory in the $50,000 Los Alamitos Claiming Futurity on Sunday night.

Victor Salazar piloted Evasive from post number two, a spot from where he broke alongside the early leaders before taking command at the midway point and then continuing from there to post a half-length victory in a time of :18.097.

“He ran a great race,” trainer Scott Willoughby said. “He had a little trouble in the trials and we were lucky to qualify eighth or ninth. He broke fantastic and flew away from them. Victor rode a great race. He sat there and let him run.”

Evasive was one of only two horses in this race with a victory already to his name. The winning experience served him well, as he made no mistakes in route to earning $21,210 for his second win in four career starts. Allred also gets to keep Evasive, as the sorrel sprinter out of the Stel Corona mare Wily was not claimed out of this race. Instead, it was his stablemate He Travels, who was one of two horses claimed out of this race. Trainer Cesar De Alba dropped both winning claims, acquiring He Travels from Allred and Famouscard from Jesus Avila for $16,000 each. He Travels is now owned by Ezequiel Flores, while Famouscard was acquired by Sophia Orozco.

Les And Kim Sweeting’s Fiddle Faddle Foose finished second to Evasive. The Paul Jones trainee earned $8,585 for his runner-up effort. Famouscard, who was saddled by Adan Farias, earned $6,060 for running third. Rocks Snootie Girl, My Favorite Spirit, Diamond Bac, Cd Lady Foose, One of A Kind J, Sugar Foote, and He Travels completed the field.

The $20,000 Takin On The Cash Stakes went to J. Francisco Diaz’s Hez Lonesome. Ridden by Armando Viramontes for trainer Lindolfo Diaz, Hez Lonesome won the 350-yard dash by a neck over Ricardo Ramirez’s Favorite Budder while covering the distance in :17.851. A gelding by Hez Our Secret, Hez Lonesome was making his first start since running seventh in the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity. The Reliance Ranches-bred runner won his Kindergarten trial and has now recorded three victories from his four career starts.
