GATE WORK FOR SATURDAY, MARCH 22

RACE 7 – ALLOWANCE – 3 & UP  – 110 YARDS

#4 One Sweet Duck – February 22  :18.6 at 350 yards (SET #1)

Solo Horse: La Pacifica Stakes winner will make her 2025 debut. She posted this solo 350-yard work while using a flipping halter on February 22. She stumbled terribly at the start, struggled to regain her balance, once she recovered, she ran greenly, striding sideways and needing about 50 yards to overcome the rough start. She finally found her rhythm at the gap and went nicely from there to the wire before slowing as she entered the turn in her gallop out. 

GATE WORK FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 23

RACE 5 – ALLOWANCE – 3-YEAR-OLDS  – 300 YARDS

#3 Snow Bound – March 10  :12.4 at 220 yards (SET #4)

Inside Horse: Multiple Grade 1 futurity finalist will make his sophomore debut and first start since the Golden State Million Futurity on October 27. Working from the inside post, the Favorite Cartel trailed Personal Attack in this 220 yard drill when going in :12.4 vs. :12.2. He was moving around in the gate before settling nicely as the gates opened. He broke alertly, moved swiftly past the gap but was passed by Personal Attack. He continued under a hand ride and finished a half-length behind at the wire.  He kept working hard from there and was the better of the two in the gallop out.

RACE 7– MAIDENS – 2-YEAR-OLD FILLIES  – 220 YARDS

#1 MG Cash Payment – March 8  :13.1 at 220 yards (SET #8)

Inside Horse: Louisiana-bred filly by Constituent is out of Clever Conversation, a daughter of 1999 Dashing Folly Stakes winner Iba Quick Chick ($38k). Finished ahead of race 8 entrant As Cartel when going in :13.1 from the inside post vs. her :13.2.  She was sluggish leaving the gate but then jumped ahead of her workmate. She appeared to be the smaller of the two, but had a quicker stride, was tapped once and finished under a hold. She continued to display a quick turn of foot in the gallop out while also being under the grasp of her rider.

#2 As Cartel – March 8  :13.2 at 220 yards  (SET #8)  

Outside Horse: Leonardo Alcala’s Favorite Cartel filly is out of the 2019 AQHA champion aged mare As And Js, a $531,134 earner who won the 2019 Grade 1 Junos Request and was fifth in that year’s Grade 1 Champion of Champions. As And Js was second in both the 2019 Grade 1 Mildred Vessels and 2020 Grade 1 Charger Bar Handicap. AS Cartel worked from the inside post when finishing behind MG Cash Cartel in :13.2 to :13.1. She was moving her head around waiting for the start and appeared to brush the gate as she left. She broke in, was corrected, circled back to her path and was under a hand-ride while trailing her company. She got rolling in the second half of the drill, gained ground on her rival and finished the better of the two before showing a nice burst after the finish line and then going under wraps at the turn.

#3 Dinastia Roja - March 10  :12.6 at 220 yards  (SET #8)    

Middle Horse: Executive Cartel filly is out of Scarlet Dynasty, whose family traces back to the graded stakes placed mare Miga Ja. This is the family of the AQHA champion aged mare Mini Rock. She worked between horses when winning a three horse drill in :12.6 while ahead of Dulcified and Diamond Party. She also worked in :12.5 on February 22. She stood perfectly and broke sharply, while having plenty of space to her inside as she floated slightly inwards. She leveled out after the gap, was under a hustling ride and had the lead on her workmates. She finished under a comfortable ride and was ahead by ¾ lengths. Solid gallop out from there as she continued with a good stride around the turn.

#4 Xtrawberry Silk -  March 8 :12.6 at 220 yards   (SET #18)          

Outside Horse:  This Adan Farias-trained filly is out of La Corona Del Mar, whose dam is the millionaire Strawberry Silk, the winner of the 1989 All American Futurity. Worked from the outside post when finishing ahead of the colt Shekel in :12.6 vs. :12.8. She stood nicely before hopping away from the gate. She idled at the start, went out before circling inwards while finding herself ahead of her workmate. She was running a big head high at the midway point and the rider had a hold of her, but she was still surging ahead and continued to do so while under wraps to the wire. She kept showing nice talent after the wire before cruising around the turn.

#5 Shinning Favorite – March 4    :12.6 at 220 yards (SET #6)       

Outside Horse:  Mpshinning filly is out of the unraced Lola Empanada, a daughter of nine-time winner and $85k earner Pavonada. Worked from the outside post when finishing ahead of the gelding Separatist Tornado in :12.6 vs. :12.9 on March 4. He was leaning to her ride just as the gate opened but came away okay and with the lead. He angled in soon after the start and then slowly began to drift in after the gap. By then he was well clear of his rival, had a really nice stride and finished under a nice hand-ride to the wire. He maintained a sharp stride after the finish line and had a nice gallop out from there.

#6 Blow Ur Whistle - March 8 :12.8 at 220 yards  (SET #19)           

Inside Horse: Utah-bred filly by Corona Cartel is out of the $107k earner Apolitical Zoom, winner of the 2015 G3 Las Damas and runner-up in that year’s G1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby. Worked evenly with the filly Ultra Shiny from the inside post when they both in :12.8. Was moving back and forth while in the gate before rising and hopping towards the inside at the start. After drifting in, she leveled out after the gap, turn her head sideways shortly after that, but continued working hard to wire, while finishing just ahead of her rival. She cruised from there in her gallop out.

RACE 8– MAIDENS – 2-YEAR-OLDS  – 220 YARDS

#1 Handsome – March 8:13.0 at 220 yards  (SET #7)

Inside Horse: Rancho AA’s colt is by Favorite Cartel out of Comely, who is a daughter of the sizzling fast, stakes winner Moonlight Corona. This is the family of Nomadic and Circle City. He worked from the inside post when finishing behind the colt Beyond Repair in :13.0 vs. :12.5. He was swinging his head from side to side before the start before breaking inwards. He continued drifting in past the gap, the jockey corrected him and helped him level out but that also slowed his momentum as he faded far behind his workmate while finishing okay. He was under a orders to slow down as he entered the clubhouse turn and cruised from there.

#2 AP Scorpion Boy– March 16   :13.1 at 220 yards (SET #23)        

Solo Work: Mpshinning colt is out of Ashada, whose is headed by multiple graded stakes winner Lady Tenaya, the mother of $250k earner and stakes winner Desirio. Posted a :13.1 clocking in this solo drill. He pulled away from the assistant starter as he waited for the start and then broke awkwardly. His first few steps were to the outside, then he shifted in, lost momentum and eventually got going as the rider waited for him to pick up speed before beginning to push him for more. He drifted in as he approached the finish line and slowed shortly after crossing the wire.

#3 MG Private Relations - March 8 :12.9 at 220 yards (SET #16)   

Inside Horse: North California-bred colt by Constituent is out of the six-time winner and multiple stakes placed mare Pm Runaway Dash. He worked evenly with his full brother MG Blue Moon when working from the inside posts in matching :12.9 clockings. He stood nicely but was sluggish leaving the gate. He drifted in after the start, but found his stride nicely and was under a hand-ride for the first part of the work before the rider grabbed a hold of him as he approached the drifting MG Blue Moon. They hit the wire in unison and from there he continued strongly in his gallop out before shifting his stride as he took the clubhouse turn.

#4 Val Future  – March 1  :12.6 at 220 yards       (SET #10)

Inside Horse: Foose colt is out of a daughter of Hat De Strawfly, who was a seven-time winner and $74,000 earner. Hat De Strawfly was 3rd in the 1994 G3 Quarter Horse Breeders Distaff Classic. Worked from the inside post when finishing ahead of race 8 entrant Cyber Alert in :12.6 vs. :12.7. He was the more active of the two waiting for the start and left evenly with his rival. He had the advantage as he was also the more balanced out of the two away from the gate and faster in finding his stride. He was under a solid hand-ride from there, had a visible lead to the 1/16th pole and maintained as his ride did a nice job guiding to the finish line. He had an easy going gallop out from there.  

#5 Cyber Alert – March 1   :12.7 at 220 yards  (SET #10)       

Outside Horse:  Cyber Monday gelding is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jesst a Dream, who is from the family of the blue-hen mare and $609k winner Dashing Phoebe. Worked from the outside post when finishing behind Val Future in :12.7 to :12.6. He stood quietly awaiting the start before taking a hard step inwards and then shifting back out. He was tapped right-handed to help him level out while trailing his company. He had his sights on his rival as he got going late and was under a hold right before the wire. He wanted to stride out in his gallop out but the rider already had him wrapped up.  

#6 Touch Base - March 8 :12.8 at 220 yards   (SET #20)       

Inside Horse: Owned by Juan Avila, this colt by Uncle D is out of the Thoroughbred mare Touch Of Bling, a $261,703 who won races at Saratoga, Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park West. Worked from the inside post when outworking the Tell Cartel colt Cierto in :12.8 vs. :13.0. He stood nicely in the gate before breaking to the inside. He leveled out shortly after, found his stride nicely and accelerated away from his workmate while under an easy-going ride. He drifted out at the midway point but still had a comfortable lead and crossed the wire under a hold. He galloped nicely after the wire before slowing at the turn.
