WALKING TOOL WINS AH SIGH STAKES
Rodrigo Ayala, Guadalupe Bujanda, and Jose Flores’ Walking Tool improved to a perfect three for three after winning the $30,000 Ah Sigh Handicap by a ½ length over Mario Tellez Montiel’s Show N Tell Cartel on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.
A gelding by Walk Thru Fire out of the top mare No Tools Required, Walking Tool earned $16,500 for the win. He was third at the midway point of the race before surging late to pull away from top contender Favorite Semental before holding off Show N Tell Cartel. With Cruz Mendez up, Walking Tool covered the 400 yard distance in :20.05. Up next will be his first race in a stakes trial.
“He’s in the trials for the Two Million,” Flores said. “Hopefully he pulls up good. He’s shown this kind of talent. Step by step. We ran him 300, 350 and now 400 yards. It was to test him. He loves the distance. Hopefully he stays sound, and we can do something good with him.”
Ridden by Cesar Franco for trainer Elena Andrade, Show N Tell Cartel earned $6,750 for running seconds at 11-1 odds. The top two were followed by Malynche, Favorite Semental, Fyrestorm, J El Profeta and Billie Blues Girl.
